briefings are offered to diplomats, government officials,
military officers, university faculty, policy analysts
and students, as well as to the general public. The briefings
are given by the Director of the Department of External
Relations, Irene Klinger, and senior specialists from
the various departments of the organization. Briefings
are tailored to the specific interests of the visiting
groups, covering political, social, legal and economic
issues in the Americas as well as the work of the organization.
These briefings include tours of the facilities and an

The Institutional Relations Section of the Department of
External Relations organized a briefing for 26 high
school students from The Field School of Washington, DC.
The students received a tour of the Historic Main
Building, along with a briefing on the OAS, by Aline
Hommes, Specialist, Department of External Relations.
They also visited the Art Museum of the Americas where
they received a tour and information on the Exposition
‘Breaking Borders’ by Maria Leyva, Curator of
Collections, Art Museum of the Americas.

briefing for 33 International Business and Trade
Students from American University. The Students received
a tour of the Historic Main Building by Aline Hommes,
Specialist, Department of External Relations, and a
comprehensive OAS briefing with emphasis on trade issues
by Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional Relations.
JANUARY 12th, 2007
On January 12th The Department of
External Relations organized a visit for 45 students
from Gonzaga College High School. The students received
a tour of the Historic Main Building and an OAS Overview
by Aline Hommes, Specialist, Department of External
Relations. They also visited the OAS Art Museum of the
Americas where the met with artist Muriel Hasbun who
developed the Community Blackboard component of the
exhibit Breaking Borders, Rompiendo Fronteras.

The Institutional Relations Section
of the Department of External Relations organized a
briefing for 22 Students from the University of San
Diego that was requested by the Washington Center for
Internships. The Students received a tour of the
Historic Main Building by Aline Hommes, Specialist,
Department of External Relations, and a comprehensive
OAS briefing by Jane Thery, Chief, Institutional
Relations. The visit also included a walk through the
underground painted tunnel with the theme “Roots of
Peace” by Uruguayan Artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, and a
visit to the Art Museum of the Americas.
